This book is definitely a departure from the books I typically read and write about. But I have to admit, I love Mindy Kaling (especially in The Mindy Project) and was excited to read her book. Is it somewhat pointless? Admittedly, yes. Is it a fun read nonetheless? Yessir. One thing I love and admire about Mindy (and is abundantly evident in this book) is to be yourself.

Mindy is no the prettiest (although she is voted as one of them) or the skinniest person, especially in TV. She’s not the funniest writer ever (because nobody is) nor is she the best actress ever. When she got her own TV show everyone wondered why the most annoying character on The Office (a show which I did not watch) got her own show. All this to say, Mindy is not a superstar.

She is confident, though. And content. She knows who she is, and she knows who she’s not. She’s not afraid to be herself and assert that when necessary. Which is a great trait for anyone to have. Mindy shows us, and especially other young ladies who may be struggling with feeling “unworthy” because they’re not the prettiest that they can keep trucking on, being themselves, and things go on.

Life won’t be perfect for anyone, and we see that in Mindy’s book. But as long as you’re true to yourself you’ll be happy and content in more things than if you’re changing who you are to meet the ideas and needs of everyone else. That’s something Mindy makes sure to do, and I admire her for that.

This book is a fast read and is funny. It’s basically just a bunch of stories from Mindy’s past. It makes entertaining and personal.
